2012 year in Review

Wow what a year! My blogging has been basically non-existant. I'm hoping to fix that in 2013. I'm going to try to make a point to blog once a week. It is hard with a little one and being in my first year of teaching but I feel like I should document it.

Our year in 2012:
January 3: I started my first teaching job. Teaching 5th grade Social Studies
January 8 : My dad went to be with the Lord. This was a sudden loss and he is missed every day.

January 20: My sweet baby girl was born.

January 22: Consents signed and Faithe is officially ours.
March 18: 6th wedding anniversary
May 5: I walk at graduation finally after graduating Dec 16, 2011.

June: I turn 31.
June: I'm hired for my first contract job teaching 3rd grade self contained.
June 21: Happy Adoption Day!

August: Start teaching
November 4: Faithe is dedicated to the Lord.

November 22: First Thanksgiving as a family of 3.

December 25:: Faithes first Christmas.

Happy New Year and see you in 2013.

Life is busy and great

Wow! I've been MIA since Faithe turned 6 months old. She is now 8 months and such a happy baby. I attribute her happiness to the baby wise method we have decided to do with her. Another blogger that I follow used this method with her daughters and it impressed me how happy her baby was. Faithe has slept through the night since she was 8 wks old. We've had some hiccups along the way but with some adjustments to schedule she goes right back to sleeping through the night. I highly recommend picking up the Babywise book and giving it a read.

In the last few months she has begun to crawl, sit up, pull herself up, and really starting her syllables. She loves her books and will "read" anytime there is a book around. I think they are one of her favorite "toys". She has gotten really good with her puffs and the pincher grip. Its so much fun to watch.

Life has been busy. I have been teaching the 3rd grade and loving it. I'm exhausted most days but wouldn't change anything. Between teaching and running a household Cart has been out of town a little to help with other areas after storms rolled through. But when he is home he does so much around here since I'm tired almost all the time.

I'm going to try really hard to blog more often. Especially now that her little personality is starting to emerge. She truly is a blessing to have in our family.

Finalization Day

On June 21st we finalized Faithe's adoption. This is a day we will always remember. At the beginning of June Cart was called away for work. This assignment was one he almost turned down. Right after he turned it down he called me and I told him he needed to accept the job and he could participate in the finalization over the phone. This job was extra income we needed with me not working this summer. When we did the numbers we realized his travel day would be the day of finalization. So he called immediately to the bosses and asked for permission to fly into the city of finalization instead of our home city. He was given permission. The Monday before finalization he was given permission to finally book his travel. I was one nervous momma. So the day of Grampa and Gramma drove down early to be at the airport when daddy arrived. Then after Faithe had breakfast Momma and Nana drove down. We all met at IKEA (always try to make a trip there when we go to this city). We had lunch fed Faithe and then shopped a little. The awesome thing is the courthouse was literally 5 min from IKEA. Amazing!

After some shopping we drove to court. We met our attorney just outside the courtroom. He went over a few things and then we were called in. I think we were sworn in...hmmm..just one of those minor details. Afterwards we did a few pictures and then headed to the little cafe a few floors below. Our attorney met us with a certified copy of the finalization papers. It was an amazing day!

Updates

I've been MIA due to my hard drive going bad. After being repaired and finally getting all my programs back I can get on the internet (other than using my phone).

Faithe is doing wonderful. She will be 6months next week and is growing like a weed. She is currently in 9month clothes but for shorts she wears 24mths or 2T because of her diaper and chubby little thighs. She is such a happy baby and I have been enjoying being home with her this summer.

But in 4 shorts weeks I will be returning to my very own classroom. I am super thrilled that I was hired at the same school I interned at and was a long term sub at last year. I will be teaching 3rd grade and couldn't be happier.

I could write a super duper long post on all the details of little miss but will save that for maybe another day. I've been so horrible about updating on the blog that I'm deciding if I want to keep it going. If I decide to shut it down I'll let you know and you can follow me on facebook.

Neglect

I have totally been neglecting my blog. I have pictures to post and things to talk about but I'm busy taking care of and mostly loving on my baby girl.

Being a mommy is the best best thing ever. I love being her mommy! And Cart loves being her Daddy.

Some days are difficult. Being a working momma takes its toll on me some days. She's in good hands during the day but some days it is still hard. Some days I'm so tired after dealing with 85, 5th graders I just want to crawl into bed. But I just pray for the strength and take care of her. Right after that 9pm bottle I'm usually in bed.

She is doing wonderful. Formula and Reflux issues aren't really an issue. We have a good combo that works and she is doing really well.

Definitely this week I'll post pictures, get her 3 month update done, and post about the adoption related stuff. See lots to talk about and not enough time!

2 Months

Faithe is now 2 months old. A week before she turned 2 months old she went to the doctor's for her 2 month baby well visit.

Doctor:
Weight: 12.6 lbs (90th percentile)
Height: 23inchs (75th percentile)
She had her shots as well and that made for a difficult evening. One of the vaccines can give children gas. For an already gassy baby that made for one long night of sleeping football hold style in momma's arms. She only wanted her momma.

At this appointment I asked the doctor about increasing her formula and he said we could. So we increased her to 6oz every 4 hours. So she eats at 5am, 9am, 1pm, 5pm, and 9pm. She'll usually eat 2-4 oz at 11pm for her dreamfeed and then she sleeps until 11am. So she eats 32-34 oz a day.

Clothing: She is officially into 3month clothing and some 3-6 month clothing. She has a little room to grow in both. We did have to go out and buy more "summer" type outfits because we expected it to be a little cooler than it has been. With her being hot natured already summer clothes were in order.

Diaper: She is in size medium gdiapers and had her first diaper rash. We think if she had been in regular disposables her rash would have been much worse. It only took 3 days to clear up.

Nap Time: Faithe isn't that great of a napper. But when she is put on her tummy she'll get in a good 3hr nap. She definitely likes to be held until she is out cold and then she can be put down.

Wake Time: She is becoming more vocal and loves to smile. She has such a precious smile and just loves to interact. She plays on her activity mat, does tummy time, reads books, and swings. We just bought her a jumperoo and Baby Mozart. She only plays in her jumperoo right now for about 5-10 minutes. She loves bouncing on her feet but I don't let her bounce in the jumperoo too much until her neck control gets much better. She watches her baby mozart once a day and usually falls asleep in her bouncer watching it.

Night Time: Faithe sleeps from about 10pm to 5am. Lately it takes a while for her to get to sleep at night. She doesn't want to miss anything so she fights going to sleep. Even though we do babywise I'm pretty sure she will have a difficult time when she is a toddler. Although I hope babywise does more wonders on her:)

Bath Time: Faithe still LOVES bath time. If she is crying and upset I can put her in the bath and the crying immediately stops.

Faithe Stories:
Faithe is a very good burper. Her and daddy have competitions to see who can burp louder. Sometimes you can hear her burps across the house.

Faithe loves kisses from mommy. It is so cute when I give sound effect kisses and when I pull away she opens her mouth like mommy does. I'll have to post the video in my next picture post because it is too cute.

Sometimes if she is in her car seat and unhappy just sitting there all I have to do is pick up the carseat. It is rather comical and I've even had comments when this occurs.

6 weeks old

Faithe is 6 weeks old today. My baby girl is growing so big.

Babywise: we are doing babywise with Faithe. It allows for a routine for her and helps to plan out our days. This is her current "schedule" the good thing is we are flexible based on her needs

5am- Eat and back to bed
8am - Zantac and eat
830-930 - wake time

930-11 - Nap
11am - eat
1130-1230- wake time
1230-200 - nap
2pm - eat
230-330- wake time
330-500- nap
500 - eat
530-630- wake time/bath
630-800 - nap
800 - eat
830 bed
11pm - dreamfeed/diaper change
2am - eat and back to bed

Wake time: During her wake time she does various activities. This week at Gramma's house she went on walks, played on her discovery mat, did tummy time, had books read to her, sat on the porch, did neck exercises and just sat and had conversations with Gramma and Grampa (although they did more of the talking).

Sleeping: two days this week little miss didn't want to nap at all. She was fussy both days. Then on Wednesday Gramma and Grampa started using the above schedule we gave them. Instead of Faithe falling asleep in someones arms she was put in her pack n play to fall asleep. With this we started CIO a little. We don't let her CIO for more than 15 min and we listen for her cry. If it's her hunger cry we get her up and feed her an additional 2 ounces. But usually it is a soft cry with wimpers. If she hasn't fallen asleep at the end of the 15 min and is still crying she is picked up soothed and calmed then put back to bed. So she has had more naps with only one long nap of an hour and a half. The shortest being just 30 min. So more naps is good. At night she sleeps good. She has gotten the hang of going to bed awake and putting herself to sleep. She wimpers and grunts sometimes but mostly just goes to bed.

Eating: She is still eating every 3 hours with a full 4oz except the dreamfeed she'll only eat 2oz. She gets Zantac twice a day and has been switched to Enfamil Nutrimegin. We switched her to that on Sunday and she has done much better gas wise while being on that formula. Makes for a happier Faithe and a happier momma and daddy.

Clothing: She has made her way into 3month clothes. Her NB PJs bust at the seems so she can't be in those anymore. We had to go buy more 3 month PJs with out feet on the them. Gotta have her feet free. :)

Diapers: She is still in size small gdiapers although we should probably move to medium. I'm waiting to find out how much she weighs. I think we switched her at 14lbs not sure.

Stimulation: Too much and she gets fussy. This requires a nap.

We think we had her first smile this week. And she has smiled several times but until it is on a regular basis I think we'll give gas the credit. LOL...she is one gassy baby.

5 Weeks

Baby girl is 5 weeks old. This was her first week at Gramma and Grampas. Grampa was out of town so she had quality time with Gramma.

Monday was the highlight of her week. She got to meet Governor Scott. We were in Panera having lunch with a friend of mine when the Governor came in. He made some rounds to the tables and stopped by our table. Faithe was sleeping in my arms and he asked how old she was. I said "she's one month old today". He said what a cutie and moved on. I would have gotten a picture with him but she had just fallen asleep and I didn't want to wake her by moving.

Weight - Monday she weighed 10lbs 6oz

Doctors - she went to the doctors on Monday to follow up on the reflux. The doctor prescribed Zantac and wants us to switch formula. We started with the zantac and are still deciding on the formula change. She is doing much better on the zantac so we aren't certain that the change in formula will help any further.

Sleep - Her sleep this week has been much better. She goes to bed around 9 after his 8pm bottle. She sometimes has a dreamfeed at 11pm then wakes at 2am and then 5am. She usually has trouble going back to sleep after her 5am bottle. So she snuggles with mommy or daddy while the other gets ready for work.

Eating - On Sunday we had upped her feeding to 5-6 oz at each feeding because she was eating 4oz and then an hour after a feeding wanting another 2oz. When we were at the doctor he said we should take it back down to 4oz. He said halfway through the bottle we need to burp her and give her a break. Then after the bottle burp and break if she still wants more to eat then give it to her. He said that all people if they eat fast their stomach knows its full but there mouth gets the message late. Thus overeating occurs. So the breaks in feeding allow her mouth to catch up to her stomach. So far it is working.

Clothing - It appears she will be wearing some 3month clothes and some newborn still. Depends on the brand of clothing. Carter's clothing is definitely 3months.

Bathtime -she still loves bath time. Loves her water on the warm side. She also loves her massages afterwards.

Diapers - she is wearing size small gdiapers. I'm sure before she is 2 mnths she will be in size medium.

Awake time- she loves her activity mat and Gramma said this week one time she hit one of the hanging toys. One time she actually fell asleep on her mat. She also does tummy time and can handle that for about 10 min at a time. She has good neck control as well. She also enjoys being read to.

She is one happy and content baby who is loved so very much.

Randomness

This post will be bullets because I have a lot on my mind.

  • Teaching 5th grade has its challenges and rewards. One of the challenges is when the curriculum doesn't match the text book and I must create all my materials. What Joy!

  • Today on the drive home from school I wanted to call my daddy. I picked up the phone and remembered he isn't here. So instead I had a conversation with him in my car.

  • Faithe had her first day at Gramma and Grampa's house. She did wonderful! Gramma enjoys having this little girl in her life. Faithe is so loved.

  • We started Faithe on Zantac yesterday and so far it seems to help. Her gas spells only last a few minutes and she has had more BM (I know you really wanted to know that:))

  • My house is a wreck. It is so hard to work, care for Faithe and get the house work done. I guess that is what Saturdays are for.

  • I have the most absolutely amazing husband. Cart does so much for Faithe and I it's crazy. He can't sit still for a second(unless he is holding Faithe or playing with her) so he has kept up with the laundry, washes all of her bottles, washes her diapers and still has time to love on us. We are so blessed to have him in our lives.

  • Faithe is officially one month old as of yesterday. She is so much bigger!

  • We got the CD of her newborn pictures today in the mail and OMG our photographer Jenn did an AMAZING job. I have to go through all the pictures again and pick my favs, but there are so many! Then I'll do a post with my favs.

Until next time!

4 weeks old

Faithe is 4 weeks old today. She is definitely growing. I was showing my class pictures of her in the hospital and I could definitely see how she has grown.

Eating: Faithe is still a very good eater. She eats 4oz every 3 hrs. Sometimes at the half way point between feeding she'll eat an extra 1-2 oz. We are still dealing with spit up. Sometimes she spits up other times she doesn't. The spit up is usually about 30 min to an hour after a feeding. We are going to call the Peds to give them this information since they wanted us to monitor.

Sleeping: Faithe still sleeps good, but she has had a few rough nights. Which means momma and daddy are exhausted.

Awake Time: She definitely has awake time in the morning. Then she gets over tired and fights taking a nap. During her awake time she does tummy time, lays on her play mat and looks in the mirror, or we work on her neck muscles.

Stimulation: This seems to be doing okay. We had a shower at school the other day and she was passed around while she was asleep and she slept okay that night. Granted she didn't want to go to bed when momma thought she should go to bed. So it made for one tired momma the next day.

Bath Time: She still likes her bath. Although daddy gave her a bath the other morning and she didn't like it so much. I'm sure daddy wasn't thrilled that momma wasn't there to assist. But she was clean and smelled like a baby:) One thing is for certain, after her bath you have brush her hair while it is still wet. If not she gets wild hair that sticks straight out.

Clothing: She is still in newborn clothes but I can definitely tell we will be moving to 0-3 months soon and maybe some 3 month clothes. We'll probably start using a mixture of different sizes very soon.

Feet

Never thought I'd do a post about feet. But my baby girl does not like her feet covered. We have to donate/return several pairs of footed PJs because my baby girl likes her feet free. Several times we have put her in these types of PJs and she screams until it comes off. We had to go out and buy PJs in which the feet were open. Let me tell you that is very difficult to find. We found some and as we find them for future years we buy them.

When we put her in her bouncer for naps and cover her up she usually kicks the blanket off of her feet. It is the cutest thing. Here are some pictures of the proof:)

Aren't those the cutest feet you've ever seen! Baby girl knows what she wants! Love kissing those little feet!

3 weeks old

Baby girl is 3 weeks old today. She had a visit to the pediatrician yesterday due to the formula issues and she is up to 9lbs. Our little chunky monkey.

Eating: Faithe is a very good eater. She loves her food. Right now she eats about 3.5 to 4oz of formula every 3-4 hours. Last night she actually skipped a feed...but this morning she ate 5oz in a matter of an hour and a half. The pediatrician changed her back to Enfamil Newborn due to the poop issues we were having on the Prosobee. We are working to find out if it is reflux or over eating. She said that babies appetite is bigger than their stomach so they tend to over eat and spit up what their stomachs can't hold. So we are journaling how much she eats, when she spits up, how much and then we'll follow up in a week or so. They said that will help determine if it reflux.

Sleeping: Faithe is a pretty good sleeper. She still only sleeps at night in her Rock and Play sleeper. Best money ever spent. For naps she'll sleep in her bouncer or in the Pack n play. At night we feed her and change her mostly in the dark. During the day regular noise and lots of light.

Awake Time: She is having more awake time. She likes tummy time and actually I just found out she likes to kind of sit between my legs and lean over the other leg. So cute.

Development: Her neck control is really good. During tummy time she lifts her neck up, looks in all directions, and isn't all over the place. When she is on the shoulder she does have a little uncontrolled movement but not much. It is getting much better.

Stimulation: We noticed when she has too much stimulation that she doesn't sleep very well. Meaning too many visitors or activities in a day she'll have some restless sleep. So we'll be working to control that.

Bath Time: She really likes her baths on the warmer side. I tried to use the duck that tells you if it is too Hot and when I made the water so it wouldn't say hot she screamed. When I make it warmer she sits there calmly and lets me pour water all over her. So I really think as long as we have warm water she'll love her baths. She is still figuring out the lotion massages after bath.

Clothing: She is still in newborn clothes. While she isn't swimming in them anymore, they are starting to fit better. With her weight gain we probably only have about 1-2 weeks left in Newborn clothes. She still hates sleepers with feet. We thought it was just the "onesie" type ones but we put a pair of pants on her the other night with footies and she was not having it. As soon as her feet were free she calmed down. She even kicks her blanket off her feet when in the car seat or in her sleeper. This girl loves her feet free.

My Poor Baby

Faithe is a happy and content baby usually. Literally she eats, sleeps and poops. Until this weekend.

Part is in the Formula change post below.

Well last night she seemed to do okay. She grunted for about 45min after each feed while falling back to sleep. Then she woke up at about 7ish which was 3hrs after her last feed. She's been awake since. She only slept maybe 30min in the Moby Wrap. Since she's been awake she has cried off and on. We keep feeding her and I fear that is making the problem worse.

Her stool also changed since the formula switch. Today it has become harder and gets stuck to her.

So far we've fed her:

7am- 3.5 oz
10am - 3.5 oz
11am- 2oz
130- 2oz
230- 4oz

I feel like we are feeding her too much and too often but I don't know what else to do. It makes her calm down.

I'm one tired momma!

Formula Change

When we were in the hospital with Faithe they asked us what formula we wanted. We chose Enfamil Newborn. All was going good and she was eating like a champ. In the hospital they tried to switch her to gentlease after 1 rough night. When we tried that she spit up what she ate and then refused the bottle. So we went back to Newborn.

When we got home, the first night was horrible. She was almost unconsolable. She slept best on my chest or laying in the cradle of my arm. She didn't want to be swaddled. That night Cart went to CVS about 4am to get gripe water and mylecon drops. We added the gripe to her very next bottle and she seemed to do better. We did that for a few days and then at the recommendation of the pediatrician we switched to the mylecon drops. She fed fine, burped, had bowel movements etc. She even gained weight.

Then over the last few days she has had more spit ups, grunting, and fussiness. Then last night she had spit ups, would arch her back, and had trouble sleeping. I actually had to lay her on my chest to get her to sleep and then move her to the Sleeper. It was a rough night.

I should mention at her 2-week checkup I mentioned dry heaves to the doc and he said it's normal, could be reflux but since she was gaining weight and had no projectile spit up she would be fine.

So after last night I put a call into the nurse. She suggested gentlease and I mentioned the hospital incident. So she said we could try Enfamil Prosobee. They left some samples at the front desk and Cart went to pick it up. We started with 2 ounces and she went to sleep after wards. She also drank that entire two ounces with no grunting. After about 30min she was hungry again and we fed her another 2 ounces. She did fine again and went to sleep right after. About 30 min later she was fussy again and took about another ounce and a half. She then slept for her 3hours and drank about 3 1/2 ounces. So far she seems to be doing okay on this new formula.

If she still has issues come Monday the Pediatrician will want to see her to determine if it is reflux. I sure hope this new formula does the trick.

2 Weeks

Today baby girl is 2weeks old. We had a check up at the doctors office today. She's still healthy and a growing girl.

Weight: 8lbs 3oz
Length: 20.5 inches.

Since her visit on the 23rd she has gained 1lb 1oz and she has grown .5inches since birth.

Eating: Faithe eats about every 3hrs right now and it is usually 3oz. Sometimes between a feed she'll eat an ounce or 2. She was growing this week so the extra feedings were a little unexpected.

Sleeping: Faithe sleeps a lot. At night she sleeps in the Fisher Price Rock N Play sleeper. This thing is the best money I could have spent on her. She goes to bed around 8-9 depending on when that feed happens. She sleeps until 10-11 wakes up feeds and diaper changed then back to bed this cycle repeats until she wakes up at 8-9 in the morning and we get her up and bring her to the daylight. Cart actually researched the day/night sleeping and we decided that for night time sleeping it is dark and quiet with a little white noise(the fan). At night all her feeds happen in the dark and a small light for diaper changes. During the day naps happen in full sun light with whatever noise is happening in the house.

Awake times: She is awake for a few hours a day. Usually after her morning bottle she is awake for about an hour and a half. In the evening hours she is awake about the same time. Other than that she's sleeping.

Schedule:

8-9 am wake up eat, change diaper, get dressed.

9-1030- awake time. face to face with momma or daddy. diaper change in there somewhere.

1030-1100 - sleep

1100-1200 - eat, diaper change

1200-300 - sleep

300-400 eat, diaper change

400-530 awake time, diaper change, face to face with momma or daddy.

530-600 sleep

600-700 eat, diaper change

700-900 awake time, sleep, and some nights bath

900-1100 sleep in sleeper.

Week 1

I really want to try to document by baby girl weekly and then monthly eventually. I don't want to forget about anything my baby girl does.

This past Friday my baby girl was 1 week old.

Sleeping: The first week we learned she doesn't like to be swaddled. She would only sleep on me, next to me or in her bouncer with two receiving blankets on either side. But she would sleep so we all got a little sleep. For naps she does sleep in her pack n play or bouncer.

Eating: She started eating in the first hours after birth. By Saturday the 21st she was eating 2 ounces about every 3-4hrs. By Friday night the 27th she was eating close to 3 ounces every 3-4 hours. Some days she would eat 2 ounces every 2 hours.

Awake time: She hasn't had much but when she is awake she just stares and stares. It is so precious.

Clothing: She is swimming in newborn clothes. She hates PJs that are footed, she doesn't cry but she doesn't sleep well when she is wearing them. So we had to go buy some that have open feet. Let's just say that was difficult. She doesn't really like head bows. When I put them on her she turns her head from side to side to pop them off.

The story

I figured I should get this written before I forget. Faithe's birth day story.

On Thursday afternoon Cart picked me up from school with the car packed and we headed down south. It was a long drive and I was tired. When we arrived at our hotel I let Rebecca know we were there and told her we would get to the hospital early and if she wanted to see us she could let the nurse know and we would come see her.

Friday morning we woke up and got ready. While I'm sitting on the potty (yes totally need that detail) Rebecca texts me and asks if we are there yet that she needed to see us. Crap we hadn't even left yet. So I rush and we practically run out the door. We get to the Birth hospital and get through security and head to triage where she is on the monitors. We talked for a few, met the nurses, and then it was time. They told us where to wait and the nurse who would be taking care of Faithe said she would come get us as soon as she could. Well she came and called us over. She had just wheeled Faithe out of the OR. I was looking at her and she just couldn't help herself and let me hold her in the hallway and walk a little bit down the hallway with her(totally against rules). We went up the elevator with her and straight to the nursery with Faithe. We stayed with her while she was under the heat laps and while she got the Vitamin K shot and eye oitment. We were even there for her first bath. Just a few hours after birth I gave her her first feeding of about .5 oz. She was hungry.

We were able to stay in the nursery with her all weekend. The OR nurse who took care of her accidentally gave both of us the bracelets so we walked in and out of the nursery for a few days before they took Cart's bracelet away. Then he had to check in with security everyday. While we were there we would go visit Rebecca in her room every so often. If she wanted to see Faithe she would text me to bring her down. This happened 3 times and we only stayed about 10-15min each time. She came to the nursery once she was able to walk a few times as well. She only held Faithe once and that was on Saturday night after we had gone to the hotel to sleep.

On Sunday morning Rebecca told us that she was ready to go home and had asked to be discharged. So things on Sunday happened quickly and slowly. I knew the agency had appointments at 1 and 2 so signing the papers would have to happen before or after. Rebecca was discharged around 1ish and the cab took her home. At about 3pm the agency went to her house and the papers were signed. The agency came to the hospital and Faithe was discharged by 4pm. While we were waiting for paper signing and such Cart went to the hotel and packed us up. We decided instead of staying over night we would just head home. We were so glad we did. Faithe had a very rough night on Sunday and we didn't get much sleep.

I can say that the nursing staff at the hospital was wonderful! They took good care of our little Faithe when we weren't there and offered advice and coaching as needed. They were a great support to have there while our family was hours away.

Faithe

Little Miss arrived Friday January 20th at 734 am. She weighed 7lbs 10oz and was 20inches long. She has a head full of hair and is gorgeous. Here are some pics from the first day.

I'm working on getting her birthday story typed up so hopefully in the next few days.
